Bulk Recruiting can be very productive… if handled correctly

Recently HR Central facilitated a Bulk Recruiting evening for one of our Clients, a leading Telecommunications Store based in regional Victoria.

Our original recruitment process consisted of writing a job ad, posting the ad on Seek or alternative media, shortlisting, interviews, reference checking and offers, and while we experienced great success with this, we were finding the process to take longer than expected for bulk recruitment needs.

By hosting a dynamic Recruitment evening at the Client’s retail Store enabled us to gather a large volume of potential candidates at the one time. The night was a huge success with 6 job offers eventuating! Read on for some great tips on how we managed this process for our Client:

Generate the ‘buzz’

By writing an ad for Seek advertising our Recruitment evening, we clearly included dates, times, locations and what to bring along (i.e. updated resumes). We also included a free RSVP link for candidates to register their interest so we could keep track of attendees.

Applications

After purchasing the normal clipboards, pens and name tags, we then formulated Application forms to give to the candidates to complete upon arriving. By doing this, we captured essential information regarding their availability and notice periods along with their resume.

Many hosts make light work

Because the RSVP’s were indicating a large number of people would be attending, we encouraged our Client to have some existing Employees and Managers to assist with hosting the evening. This proved highly beneficial as not only were the existing staff fully engaged and excited for the process, it also created a great ‘vibe’ within the team by being part of the recruitment process for future team mates.

The organised production line

Before the evening commenced at 6pm, we met an hour beforehand to do a run through, which ensured high organisation on the night and a smooth process. We formed an effective production line of meet and greeters, interviewers and floaters which worked incredibly well and ensured all potential candidates had their chance to speak with someone for a good period of time.

The Follow Up

At the end of the evening, candidates were given a clear brief of what would be the next step in the process before they left. Shortlisted candidates were contacted for formal interviews the next day and unsuccessful candidates were notified within the week via email. The follow up aspect of this process was critical to ensure professionalism and respect was apparent at all times. We wanted all candidates to know that we appreciated them coming out on a Winters’ night to meet us and whether they were successful or not we identified their efforts and time regardless.

New kids on the Block

So we now have 6 fantastic Employees commencing their induction period together- this alone will prove highly beneficial for them to feel they are starting this exciting new career with other team mates, in turn forging a strong team culture from the start.

If you would like HR Central to assist you with hosting your own Recruitment evening, don’t hesitate to contact us! The benefits are well worth the time and effort for any business.
